BRIEF: Could tannins toxify salmoni fisheries?
QUESTION:
I have been visiting the Cornell University webpage for Toxic Agents in Plants.
Specifically tannins. I am interested in your opinions about the effects of
tannins found in the bark of Lodgepole pine trees in high elevation watersheds
that exhibit old forest growths. These trees upon natural decomposition, and as
a result of stormwater effects, release tannic acid into natural streams.
The question I have is as follows: In your professional opinion, do these
natural decomposed growths have the potential to (1) raise the temperature of the
stream water and (2) toxify salmoni
fisheries?
ANSWER:
I don't have the slightest idea if lodgepole duff affects salmonid fisheries.
