PLEASE NOTE:
"Poisonous" does not mean deadly. Some manifestations of toxicity are subtle. The dose, as always, determines if a plant is safe source of nutrients or a toxic hazard.

BRIEF: Is the a way to manage sorghum sudan grass to eliminate its poisonous effects?

QUESTION:
Our son recently planted sorghum sudan grass to fill in spots that didn't grow. Now we have learned this is posionous to horses. We run a horse ranch. Is there any way to manage this grass to eliminate the posion effect?

ANSWER:

Don't feed it after freezing, when it is wilted, when it is too young and damaged, or when it is overfertilized. It is a good, highly productive feed.
