young 4H'er poses with a young goat

The 21st annual Animal Crackers exceeded Morrison Hall’s capacity this year and thanks to Cornell campus partners in the Vet School and Cornell’s Polo Arena, Animal Crackers reached over 359 participants from more than 34 different counties in New York State. Pre-registered youth and adults travelled from as far west as Cattaraugus County, as far north as Jefferson County and as far east as Rockland and Westchester. The workshop series was organized by a planning committee of campus and county Cooperative Extension 4-H educators in cooperation with Department of Animal Science staff and is deliberately designed to encourage youth to engage in science themes related to animals. From reproductive dissection to microscope work in determining worm load in goats, Animal Crackers lends itself to the National 4-H Mission of "Growing 1 million New Scientists". With the help of nearly 50 volunteers, over a dozen different hands-on workshops were offered to 4-H’ers who had an interest in horses and goats.
